how do you fly an aircraft you have just downloaded from the internet?
I have downloaded a b17 fore combat flight simulator ww2 europe series and cant finde the aeroplane in my list so how do i fly it
In the download, there should be a readme file. Open that up and follow the instructions for installation. There should be files with extensions like .gau or .cfg.
Now you want to go to My Computer/C:/ Program Files/ Microsoft Games/ CFS or whatever your game is on here. There should be a lot of subfolders there. The ones you need to concentrate on are sound, aircraft, effects, and gauges. Aircraft is a must, gauges are only if the download comes with gauges to install (sometimes downloads use default flight sim gauges), sound aircraft and effects are not necessary, but they are nice to install if the download comes with them.
OK, so back to the download,
(If you have winzip, just unzip the files to where I tell you, if not, copy and paste them. Remember, all the subfolders below are located in My Computer/C:/ Program Files/ Microsoft Games/ CFS WWII Europe Series)
All the files with the extension .gau are gauge files. Copy and paste them in the gauges subfolder.
If the download comes with files with the extension .fx, paste those in the effects subfolder.
Any other files like .cfg, or sound files, you paste in the aircraft folder. (Check that the files you pasted created a new folder with the name of the plane. You cannot have these files loose all over the aircraft folder, or they won't work. You might have to create a new folder yourself, for the plane. Just right click, create new folder, and call it whatever the plane is called, and paste all the necessary files in there.
Another thing, inside the folder of the new plane, there should be four important subfolders: panel, sound, model, and texture. There should also be an aircraft.cfg and a .air file not in any subfolders.
Also take note, if you have winzip and you unzipped all the files to the aircraft folder, check that the four necessary subfolders and the two files I talked about, are right inside your new plane's folder,in aircraft. If there is another or more subfolders to get to those four subfolders, it will not work in cfs. You have to be able to only click once to get to those four. For example, this is what it should be like: Microsoft Games/ cfs/ aircraft/ b-17 (the plane you just created)/ sound, model, texture, etc.
This is what it shouldn't be like: Microsft games/ cfs/ aircraft/ b-17/make your life harder series/ b-17/ panel, sound, etc.
I have winzip so I wouldn't know what it's like copring and pasting, but if those four subfolders aren't created automatically, just make them yourself, and copy all the appropriate files into them. (panel.cfg and images should go into panel, sound.cfg and .wav files should go into sound, model.cfg and .mdl files go into model. Textures, would be kind of tricky because you have to distinguish between texture files and panel files, since they both use images. Click on the pictures to see what they are. Panel images should look like cockpits and anything that would go in a cockpit, radios, etc. Texture files coul look very odd, anything from metal textures to weird half-circles. Good luck with that.
One thing that I forgot to mention above, if the download hase a zipped file or subfolder, called .cab or something, and it has a bunch of images of things that look like gauges or lights or something, install the one file, into gauges.
One more thing, all this is for fs2002, but it should be very similar for your game.
Ok, I think I covered everything, so good luck and happy flying.
