You can always get another brushed motor to replace the one that is bad. They are a dime a dozen and the most inexpensive way to go. If you want to upgrade to brushless than the market is flooded with possibilities. To name one that is the best is impossible. They are all very good. I like the Traxxas VXL system. Has a waterproof ESC and I am fond of getting my RCs wet, and it's around $150. Pretty good deal for both motor and ESC. Castle Creations is a great system too, but there are literally hundreds out there. So personal preferance has a lot to do with it. I use Turnagy Lipos, 5000mah and they last me about 15-20 mins. They are maybe $40 and you can order them with whatever plug you need to fit your ESC. A good place to get them is www.towerhobbies.com.
