Power 6 volt speaker with 7.4 volt Lithium Batt?
I have a 7.4 LIPO 650mha battery that i got from a broken RC helicopter, and i want it to power portable loudspeakers that work on 6 volt. I dont want to risk overvoltage although I think it might be possible tu run them on 7.4 volt. The loudspeakers are creative travelsound, so pretty pricy.
What resistance (or other means) should I employ to not overload my speakers and make them rechargeable once and for all?
It runs on 4x AAA. I used 1,2v Ni-Mh rechargeable ones but they are a pain to keep re-charged. They lasted enough for my means, with a theoretical 650mAh each (yeah, right).
On my 850 mAh solar charger the loudspeakers last forever, and having the Li-Po battery as internal on the speakers is kinda convenient (although I'm going to have to do some heavy plastic cutting and modifying to get it in...)
Can you elaborate on the Diode answer? what diodes do i need for a certain current intensity? (wouldnt be the first time i burn a diode)
I would think two diodes in series would give you an approximate 1.4 volt drop to the 6 volts you are looking for. However 650mAh is not very much. What type of battery do they run on now? If AAA batteries then this might work. However I doubt that the speakers would work for more that a couple of hours per charge
addendum. I think that since the voltage and current requirement is low you could use any diode in the 1N400X series (such as the 1N4001. You would connect them up in series and then wire that up in series with the battery so that the 0.7 volt drop per diode would be the 1.4 volt drop you are looking for.
