My 3 year old son gets easily frustrated and quits playing with me?
When playing soccer, if he can not hit the ball the way he would like to he gets all bent out of shape and quits playing. I find myself begging him so we can continue play...
Or if a paper airplane does not fly perfectly then it causes him to cease the play right away...
I always try to encourage him whatever he is doing, i try to tell him things will not always be perfect... ( i never make fun of a bad soccerball kick or a bad plane throw...)
I am wondering why is he so hard with himself? Does anybody have insights to child physchology??
Thanks
He seems very interested with the play up until something goes wrong.
It may have to do with his desire to prove himself to me by being perfect but i am not sure.??
He may be a gifted child. They go absolutely nuts when something is beyond their level of abilitity, because they can mentally envision how to do it but the body isn't coordinated enough yet. This will have to do with his personality and level of intelligence and nothing else. In other words, he is not trying to impress you, he is trying to impress himself. This kind of behaviour can be seen in gifted children as early as infancy.
One of my sons went through this - he would get so frustrated he'd literally pull his hair out and scream. As his skills improved, his temper calmed, but he still expects a lot of himself - straight A's, wins in sports, medical school, that kind of thing.
