Wall Stickers!!
I've just discovered the most amazing new product in home interiors and they are called wall stickers. They don't sound too impressive, do they? To me the name conjures images of the kind of small stickers from Disney cartoons that my five year old daughter would buy in a magazine.
Thankfully they couldn't be more different. They are large scale graphic designs which when applied to the wall give the impression that the design has been painted directly on to the wall. The range of designs is enormous. If you want to create a peaceful, harmonious feel to your room there are hundreds of nature-inspired designs. One of my favourites, called Trees With Falling Leaves, is particularly beautiful. There are also some striking baroque designs such as striking black chandeliers or wrought iron railings. If architecture is your thing then try a huge decal of Parisian rooftops. For children there are some lovely ideas for both boys and girls. I really like the look of an ornate carousel horse for my daughter's bedroom.
So, how do they work? They are applied to a clean smooth surface such as a painted wall and the process is the same as applying a transfer or temporary tattoo to your skin. They can be removed easily too so they are perfect for rented accommodation or for those of us who like to have a regular change in our decor with minimal fuss.
There is a huge choice of colours available. As it can be co-ordinated with whatever paint you choose for your wall the options are endless. I really like the look of the sharp black silhouettes on a white painted wall but I'm equally drawn to the more subtle combinations of a white wall sticker on a muted background.
A quick search online and you will find that there is a huge selection available from companies all over the world. Prices vary from a few pounds for something small and simple to well over a hundred for huge scale detailed works. I have asked around and discovered that it is best to check if the wall sticker has been completely cut out for you. Apparently some of the cheaper companies are supplying an inferior product that requires cutting out from the excess vinyl which can prove very tricky - particularly with intricate designs.
I can't wait to get stuck in! I've just got to make up my mind between a shortlist of 10 gorgeous designs ... should it be the eyes or the dandelions in the bedroom? The winter trees or the spring stanches in the living room ... help!
